Programme Overview
This is an entry-level pharmacy learnership designed for individuals interested in becoming Basic Pharmacist Assistants. Learners gain hands-on practical experience in a professional pharmacy environment while completing the required training for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Successful completion can lead to permanent employment within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
Key Responsibilities
- Medication Dispensing Support:
- Assist with preparation and dispensing of Schedule 1 medicines
- Follow approved formulas and SOPs under pharmacist supervision
- Prescription & Patient Support:
- Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately
- Pick, pack, and label medicines correctly
- Check dosages and possible drug interactions
- Stock Management & Merchandising:
- Unpack, organise, and monitor pharmacy stock
- Maintain dispensary cleanliness and medicine expiry checks
- Report low stock or discrepancies
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Assist patients with queries and prescription follow-ups
- Support medical aid authorisations and chronic medication approvals
- Administrative Support:
- Use pharmacy systems (e.g., Unisolv, SAP, E-Scripting)
- Record and maintain accurate data and reports
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
- Pure Mathematics: Minimum 50%
- Life Sciences or Physical Science: Minimum 50%
- Strong willingness to learn and develop professionally
