Job Overview
Absa Bank Limited is seeking a senior technology executive to lead and transform the IT function within a large, complex financial services environment. This role sits at executive level and is responsible for defining and executing the organisation’s enterprise-wide technology strategy.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Committee and Board, driving digital transformation, innovation, and operational excellence across the business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Digital Transformation & Strategy
- Develop and execute a multi-year IT and digital transformation roadmap
- Drive adoption of emerging technologies such as AI, cloud, automation, and machine learning
- Modernise legacy systems and align IT strategy with business growth objectives
2. IT Infrastructure & Operations
- Oversee hybrid, cloud, and on-premise infrastructure environments
- Ensure high system availability, performance, and cost efficiency
- Manage major IT budgets and vendor relationships
3. Cybersecurity & Risk
- Lead enterprise cybersecurity strategy and governance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity planning
4. Data & Analytics
- Define enterprise data strategy and governance framework
- Enable advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven decision-making
- Oversee data platforms including data lakes and warehouses
5. Leadership & People Management
- Lead and develop a large IT organisation (100+ professionals)
- Build a high-performance, innovation-driven culture
- Drive talent development, retention, and succession planning
Requirements
- 15+ years’ IT leadership experience
- At least 5 years at executive level
- Proven experience in digital transformation within financial services or insurance
- Strong expertise in:
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Cybersecurity and enterprise architecture
- Large-scale IT operations and infrastructure
- Experience presenting to Board and Executive stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)

- Strategic thinking and execution capability
- Strong stakeholder and executive communication skills
- High commercial acumen and business understanding
- Ability to lead large, distributed technical teams
- Strong decision-making under pressure
